Journey Through Landscape #14 – Oriental Winter Scene in Blue and Green

Thought I’d slip in one more little thread painting before rounding out the year at Thread Sketching in Action…
Sitting at the sewing machine I was struck by how incongruous it was to be stitching away at this ‘cool colour’ scene when it was 41º C (106º F) outside!
This thread painting, Number 14 – Oriental Winter Scene in Blue and Green, in my Journey Through Landscape series, is based on a photo I took in China, around this time of year, on one of my winter orchestra trips during the past few years.
The atmosphere offered by the cold and snowy landscape is perfect fodder for a thread painting like this!
Atmospheric effects offer so many opportunities for interpreting mood and light. In fact, sometimes I think misty scenes are easier because the detail becomes blurred!
Just think about that! Less detail to work, but still a fabulous result!
High fives all round! 🙂
Worked in just 7 different shades, this thread painting is smallish in size, at approximately 6″ x 4″.

Oh Deborah! Your Oriental Winter Scene is simply stunning! Smallish? I call that minuscule! And, yes, your mention of “atmospheric effects” describes it most perfectly! One can just “see” your creativity oozing right up out of the fabric/thread/piece! Thanks so much for all you share. And thank you for being so approachable and so inspiring. God Bless you, Deb. I hope this coming year brings you lots of good choices!
What a beautiful message, Deb. Thank you! I’m glad you like the Oriental scene. 🙂
